Excimer Laser Surgery (PRK, LASIK, FemtoLASIK)

Femto Lasik

Since 2014 , the newest FemtoLasik technique is performed in our Cent. The procedure is performed by the Head of Modern diagnostic and laser treatment department, Yelena A. Malayan with the newest WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser. Femto-LASIK is the development of the classic LASIK, and is the safest and most accurate method for correcting refractive errors. The Femto-LASIK procedure is identical to that of classic LASIK. The difference is in the preparation of the corneal flap. In classic LASIK, this is cut with the microkeratome (small cutting blade), while in Femto-LASIK, it is cut with the femtosecond laser. The precision of the laser allows a very precise creation of a corneal flap, independent from the shape and the nature of the respective eye. Using this laser system it is possible to achieve more precise sight correction while being less invasive to the tissue; this new procedure also provides for a further reduction of risks related to the cut. The Femto LASIK surgery doesn’t require hospitalization. Both the femtosecond laser and the excimer laser are triggered via a computer. The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser features additional innovations allow us to offer our patients a highly effective treatment.

Lasik

Since 2005 owing to the introduction of refraction surgery and laser technology, modern laser surgeries (PRK,LASIK) are conducted in our Center which can save people from wearing eyeglasses and lenses. These surgeries are performed with the help of American most recent system “Alcon” and an instrument called microkeratome which provides patients with new “LASIK” technology. Both nearsighted, farsighted and people with astigmatism can benefit from the LASIK procedure which first time in Armenia were conducted in our Center. This procedure has several advantages over the PRK including a relative lack of pain afterward, achievement of good vision and ability to go to work the next day. It is very precise and results are very accurate. Starting from 2011 over 3600 patients were treated by this method. Lasik surgeries was performed and results are more than even expected. When you have LASIK at our Center, your treatment is based on specific measurements that are taken during your extensive and detailed pre-operative examination. In most cases, laser eye surgery is pain-free and completed within 15 minutes for both eyes. The results — improved vision without eyeglasses or contact lenses — can usually be seen in as little as 24 hours.

PRK Procedure

Since 2005 PRK procedure has been performed in our Center  PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) is a type of refractive surgery to correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) andastigmatism. PRK was the first type of laser eye surgery for vision correction and is the predecessor to the popular LASIK procedure. Though PRK recovery takes a bit longer than recovery from LASIK eye surgery, PRK is still commonly performed and offers advantages over LASIK for some patients. Like LASIK and other types of laser eye surgery, PRK works by reshaping the cornea using an excimer laser, allowing light entering the eye to be properly focused onto the retina for clear vision.
